Windermere Real Estate includes local grade school children in their annual holiday giving by taking them shopping for every member of their family.
Every December Windermere Real Estate celebrates the season of giving by selecting 10-12 deserving children from local schools to take shopping for each member of their family. Realtors take the children shopping at local Wal-Marts, bring them back to Windermere offices to wrap all the gifts and to eat some lunch, then drop them off back home with gifts for the whole family.
Windermere calls local elementary schools in October asking teachers and school faculty to keep an eye out for students and families who might need a little help this holiday season. Once the school has received permission to share the family’s information with Windermere, Windermere will call asking the children’s parents if they can participate in the Undercover Elves program. The parents usually share feelings of shock, gratitude, and relief.
This program has become a tradition at Windermere because it gives more than gifts. Windermere found that by including the children in the shopping for their families, they get to feel like a part of a solution for their families during a troubling holiday season. The participating children are typically more excited to find that perfect gift for their siblings and parents than themselves, reminding us what the season is really all about.
Jeff Thompson, Windermere’s Designated Broker, says “We asked our Realtors to donate to our Undercover Elves program and we are able to help a handful of families have a better holiday season. We believe in supporting our community and this is just one small way for us to do that. We are so thankful for the trust and support our community has given us, we feel we must find a way to give back.”
Windermere is excited to take 12 local elementary grade children shopping through their Undercover Elves program this year.
